"Plain" and a "fancy" yarns were produced using a range of spinning speeds on a hollow spindle machine. The yarns were assessed for different characteristics using both subjective and objective tests, and the results obtained with the different techniques show good agreement. Clearly, there is a progressive change in the characteristics of the yarns with increasing production speed, which may be due to the increasing forces exerted on the staple component of the yarn.
