Abstract
A quantitative spectrochemical procedure is given for the determination of aluminum, bismuth, copper, lead, magnesium, nickel, silver, and zinc, in high purity selenium. The nominal range is from 1.0 to 100 parts per million with slight variations peculiar to the individual elements. A 0.50 gram sample is burned directly in a d.c. arc. For the elements covered in this report, the average percentage error is within ±20% when the average of triplicate determinations is utilized for each sample. The method is simple and rapid, and enables one to synthesize standards with a minimum of contamination and effort The elements sought, their analytical spectral lines, and their minimum detectable amounts are given in tabular form. This method is designed for use in research as well as quality control.
