Abstract
Hybrid electric vehicles are expected make a significant contribution to the environmental needs of the premium vehicle sector and there is currently extensive industrial and academic research ongoing in this area. Combining an internal combustion engine with electric traction, managing electrically powered ancillaries and meeting the high expectations of the premium market, presents new problems in the area of Systems Engineering and Control. Some of the main system and control system challenges will be discussed in the context of hybrid research being undertaken in Jaguar Cars and Land Rover.
