Abstract
Biotechnology is a topic of considerable diversity and implications for the future, if not the very philosophy, of health care. In many respects, biotechnology differs markedly from traditional sources of new therapeutic agents. Biotechnology is viewed as encompassing three major areas: genetic engineering, molecular synthesis, and drug delivery systems. Each of these a as is an important source of pharmacologic agents.
