Abstract

■ There are three categories (including 18 key areas) related to nutrition outlined in the Health of the Nation strategy

■ Paediatrics and intensive care were areas where knowledge of nutrition was regarded as important

■ The pilot questionnaire reflects knowledge levels in the study unit; further refinement of the tool would be necessary for future studies

■ The nutrition knowledge among nursing staff was less than shown in other studies

■ The study highlighted an urgent need for nutrition education among the nursing staff in the unit.
