Information on 4521 cleared domestic burglaries was examined for patterns of
co-offending. It was found that novice burglars co-offending with people equally
inexperienced in burglary did not go on to have prolonged burglary careers. A first
burglary committed as a lone offender and a first burglary committed with a more
experienced burglar are each associated with longer subsequent burglary careers.
