Abstract
The factors affecting adhesive performance in a coated fabric construction are considered, particularly with respect to bonding of cotton to polyurethane using a polyurethane latex tie-coat. An adhesive peel strength test method is detailed for hand evaluation. Improvements in reproducibility of results have been obtained using a template constructed from Mylar film mounted in an aluminum frame in order to prepare peel strips. Precision was improved, but due to inherent variability in hand application techniques it was not optimized. Relative effects of a number of factors affecting peel strengths in the systems under study are discussed.
