Abstract
This paper reports the synthesis of CdS nanoparticles using bis(methylhexyldithiocarbamato)-cadmium (II), Cd(S2CNMeHex)2); a cadmium complex of dithiobiurea, Cd(NH2CSNH)2Cl2 cadmium ethylxanthate, Cd (C2H5OCS2)2;anda thiosemicarbazide complex of cadmium, Cd(NH2CSNHNH2)2Cl2 as single molecule precursors. In all cases the precursors were thermolysed intri-n-octylphosphine oxide(TOPO) at a temperature of 250°C. A comparison of the optical properties oftheparticles from the various precursors are reported. Characterisation of the particles using X-ray diffraction and electron microscopy techniques is also reported.
