Abstract
Abstract
Both continuous and intermittent manufacturing have a bearing on demand and production rate in any industry. An idle time exists in a cycle theoretically, as a result of intermittent production. An approach is discussed in this paper to minimize the idle time by reducing the production rate, in case it is flexible. Idle time in a cycle is a major characteristic feature for differentiation in continuous and intermittent manufacture. With the help of the discussed approach, the gap between two extreme types of manufacturing can be eliminated to a large extent.
