Abstract
In the present paper, analytic discussions on the out-of-plane instability of paunch bars of beam/truss-string structures are put forward with seven basic models simplified. This is useful for a preliminary recognition of the importance of constituting a stable lower cable-bar system. Manual calculation of shape determination of lower nodes of vertical paunch bars is proposed. It is assumed that all paunch bars are vertical or perpendicular to the line connected two ends of the upper beam/truss. Hopefully the work presented in this paper could benefit the further research work and practical engineering on beam/truss-string structures.
