Abstract
An equation which accounts for the phenomenon of stray light has been derived from Beer's law. The equation has three adjustable parameters: the fraction of stray light and the absorption coefficients of both the primary and stray light. The parameters derived from fits of the equation to flame atomic absorption data are quantitative indicators of the amount of stray light in an atomic absorption experiment. In addition, the proposed equation could be used for calibration of experimental determinations.
