Abstract
In recent years many management teams have looked towards benchmarking and business process re-engineering to aid them in their quest to improve the performance of their organisations. Yet too often such initiatives focus on business processes which make little or no contribution to strategic objectives. In this paper a number of frameworks are presented which help in focusing such initiatives. The concept of process is placed within a strategic context and an approach to integrating strategy with process is articulated. By adopting a process perspective of organisations an enterprise level process structure is developed. The paper concludes by presenting a framework to help in classifying processes relative to their importance and current performance level.
