Abstract
In recent years a significant growth of concern over measuring the level of regional development has been observed. Measurement is inseparably connected with availability of statistical information. An integral element of a modern information system in official statistics, both in terms of organization and content, is regional statistics. The criterion to distinguish regional statistics is not the content of the survey, but the level of data aggregation. Space in statistical surveys plays a role of its own and is an essential dimension of the data. This paper presents a system for programming and monitoring of development policy – STRATEG – created by the Central Statistical Office of Poland in 2013. The system monitors the implementation of development strategies and public policies as well as cohesion policy during the years 2014–2020. Finally, the paper presents challenges for regional statistics in the coming years.
