In this paper we present Visual 11, a new software tool for learning microcontroller fundamentals. This tool simulates the Motorola M68HC11 microcontroller core and several peripheral devices. Thus an electrical engineering student can practise for him- or herself both assembly language programming and interfacing concepts, in the classroom or at home. Visual 11 is suitable for microprocessor and microcontroller courses at an introductory level.
